Engineered Wood Products

RedBuilt LLC

RedBuilt LLC is a manufacturer of engineered structural wood products for commercial and industrial construction, headquartered in Boise, Idaho. The company designs, engineers, and manufactures Open-Web Trusses, Red-I I-Joists, RedLam Laminated Veneer Lumber, Glulam Beams, Wall Panels, and Hybrid Mass Timber systems for low-rise commercial buildings, multifamily developments, and offsite construction applications across the United States.

Originally founded as an independent company in 2009 when Atlas Holdings acquired the commercial division of Trus Joist from Weyerhaeuser, RedBuilt traces its lineage to 1960 when Harold Thomas and architect Art Troutner co-founded Trus Joist in Boise to develop open-web truss systems for commercial construction. In early 2024, Hampton Lumber Mills acquired RedBuilt, continuing its mission to provide engineered wood solutions with unmatched commercial expertise and nationwide distribution.

Company history

The history of RedBuilt begins in 1960 in Boise, Idaho, when lumber salesman Harold Thomas partnered with architect and inventor Art Troutner to develop a revolutionary wood and steel composite open-web truss for roof and floor systems in commercial buildings. Together they founded Trus Joist, which pioneered the engineered wood products category for commercial construction and became the foundation for today's entire industry segment.

Weyerhaeuser acquired Trus Joist in 2000, operating its commercial division under the parent company for nearly a decade. In 2009, Atlas Holdings LLC, together with former company founders, industry veterans, and senior managers, acquired Weyerhaeuser's commercial Trus Joist division and rebranded it as RedBuilt. The new company launched with a focus on engineering and manufacturing proprietary wood-based structural solutions specifically for the low-rise commercial construction market.

Over 14 years as an independent company under Atlas Holdings, RedBuilt grew its manufacturing footprint, expanded into mass timber in 2020, and established itself as one of the most technically capable engineered wood products suppliers in North America. In early 2024, Hampton Lumber Mills acquired RedBuilt, with the acquisition completing in the first quarter of that year. RedBuilt now operates as a subsidiary of Hampton Lumber, continuing to serve commercial and industrial customers across the United States.

RedBuilt's lineage traces directly to Art Troutner and Harold Thomas, who invented the commercial open-web truss in Boise in 1960 — a product type that now defines the engineered wood products category for commercial construction.

Products

RedBuilt manufactures a full line of commercial-grade engineered wood products designed for strength, dimensional consistency, and design flexibility across roof systems, floor systems, walls, and structural frames.

Sustainability

Engineered wood products from RedBuilt are manufactured to make more efficient use of forest resources than traditional solid lumber. By using smaller-diameter and lower-grade timber components bonded together under controlled manufacturing conditions, RedBuilt products achieve higher strength and consistency than equivalent solid wood members while using significantly less raw material per unit of structural capacity.

The company's mass timber and hybrid mass timber product lines support green building certifications and biogenic carbon sequestration goals. RedBuilt is a member of WoodWorks, which supports wood design in commercial and multifamily construction, and maintains listings with organizations including SBCA Components, BIMobject, and SpecLink.
